About the Project:

  • Role: Digital Producer, Developer, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
  • Technology: Unity, 3D modeling

Yua, Spirit of the Arctic: Eskimo and Inuit Art from the Collection of Thomas G. Fowler, a new permanent installation in the Art of the Americas gallery, presents and educational interactive that highlights objects in the room as related to the drawings done by Tom Fowler in his anthropology field notebook. Working closely with education and curatorial departments, the goal of this project was to offer a media-rich environment where onsite visitors can learn more about the maker, material, and origin of the objects in the collection while flipping through a virtual book.

How we built it

The first part of the project was to image each page of the book and then 3D image the outside of the book. In addition, we 3D imaged the seal object from the collection. All of this information was then brought into the gaming engine Unity to allow for more seamless flow between animations and the 3D objects.
