About the Project:

  • Role: Designer, Developer, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
  • Technology: Webapp

Using the Fine Arts Museum's Kimball Education Gallery as a literal and virtual template, the website takes its graphic form from a bird’s eye floor plan of the education space. The landing page is organized with each artist’s menu area occupying a bay—merging the digital/physical as if they are all working together in the education space. Each work table contains various components from the artist’s practice, e.g. scissors, paper, spray paint, a computer, a map, etc. Each of these components open up more information, e.g. a video, an image gallery, or an artist statement. As the project progresses, the objects in the work space multiplied, taking up more of the table and beyond. The last area serves as a “conversation” space, where I have built in a comment and question area for users to engage with the artists via the site.

How it was built

The website made use of JavaScript to make use of many interactive elements. It was hosted on the museum's server.
